Matte vs Silk vs Gloss: Choosing the Right Finish

Paint finish affects more than aesthetics — it determines how easy a wall is to clean, how much light it reflects, and how long it holds up.

The finish you choose changes the entire character of a room. Here's a quick guide to matching finish to function.

Matte

Zero sheen, hides surface imperfections well, but harder to wipe clean. Best for low-traffic areas: master bedrooms, feature walls, ceilings. Not recommended for kitchens or children's rooms.

Silk / Satin

Low sheen with good washability. The most versatile finish — works in living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, and feature walls. Most interior emulsions default to this finish.

Gloss

High sheen, highly durable, easiest to clean. Reserve for doors, trims, window frames, and kitchen cabinets. Shows surface imperfections — surface preparation is critical.
